Lessons in Life

Lessons I’ve Learned Through My Storms

“When you learn from the experiences of others you compress time.”
By David Burrier

  • I’ve learned that God is always teaching me new ways to endure the storms of life.
  • I’ve learned that forgiveness always brings peace.
  • I’ve learned that when I surrender God reveals Himself to me.
  • I’ve learned that I can trust God to carry me even in the midst of my darkest hour, for “if God is for us who can be against us?” (Romans 8)
  • I’ve learned that if I assume that every person I meet is hurting or struggling in some way I’ll be right 99% of the time.
  • I’ve learned that what I think in my mind, I produce in my experience.
  • I’ve learned that when something is happening to me, I can be sure that God is doing something in me!
  • I’ve learned how to give thanks in all circumstances. (I Thessalonians 5:18)
  • I’ve learned that prayers of praise to God always bring peace.
  • I’ve learned that because I’ve survived many storms, I no longer need to fear the next one that will surely come.
  • I’ve learned that when things seem to be falling apart, they may actually be falling into place.
  • I’ve learned that perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can survive a period of darkness with the hope of a new and beautiful life ahead with Jesus.
  • I’ve learned to be content in the midst of storms and that life doesn’t have to be perfect for you to be at peace.
  • I’ve learned that though life can sometimes bring on the heat, I know who controls the thermostat.
  • I’ve learned that when I’m going through something hard and I wonder where God is, to remember that the teacher is always quiet but present during the test.
  • I’ve learned to look for the blessings in the midst of pain.
  • I’ve learned that what really matters has more to do with what happens in me than to me.
  • I’ve learned that each time I survived a storm I was stronger than before and have had many opportunities to help others who appear on my life path who have had similar struggles.
  • I’ve learned that when I feel that everything seems to be going against me, I’m reminded that airplanes and geese take off into the wind. They face the wind to give them lift.
  • I’ve learned that storms in life can either draw you closer to God or drive you further away.
  • I’ve learned that though my faith has grown through my storms, God’s desire is to teach me even more.
  • I’ve learned how to pray continuously. (I Thessalonians 5:17.)
  • I’ve learned that if I ever wonder why God doesn’t change my situation that maybe it’s because He’s trying to change my heart.
  • I’ve learned that if life brings you to it — God will bring you through it.
  • I’ve learned that faith tells me that no matter what lies ahead of me, God is already there.
  • I’ve learned that God is faithful! End of discussion.
  • I’ve learned that it’s in the struggle where I’m made strong.
  • I’ve learned that life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but rather to learn how to dance in the rain — to find the blessings in the midst of the pain.
  • I’ve learned that there are only two ways to live my life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is to joyfully treat everything as a miracle.
  • I’ve learned that faith is not about hoping that everything turns out okay. Faith is about being okay no matter how things turn out.
  • I’ve learned that when I’m in the middle of a storm, that is God’s will for me in Christ Jesus.
  • I’ve learned that when life gets too hard to stand, I need to kneel and listen.
  • I’ve learned that when life is more than I think I can handle God’s grace is even more than I can imagine.
  • I’ve learned when things come against you it is quite possible that God has prepared something ahead for you.
  • I’ve learned to remember that when things seem to be falling apart, they may actually be falling into place.
  • I’ve learned that it will be alright in the end. And if it is not alright, then it is not yet the end.
  • I’ve learned how to be joyful even when I am in the midst of a storm.
  • I’ve learned my greatest test is if I am willing to bless someone else while I’m going through my own storm.
  • I’ve learned that God can take my mess and turn it into my message.
  • I’ve learned that my life doesn’t have to be perfect to be at peace.
  • I’ve learned that sometimes what you’re most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.
  • I’ve learned that in the storm is where my faith grows.
  • I’ve learned that the presence of a storm does not mean the absence of God.
  • I’ve learned that there are some days where I need to simply bow my head and just face the storm.
  • I’ve learned that my tests in life can become my testimony to help others through their storms.
  • I’ve learned the hard way that I don’t know what I don’t know.
