EPISODE # 45 Jennifer Slattery (with no commercials)

The Jennifer Slattery Story

Jennifer Slattery inspires people to seek after God in the complexities of their own lives.

Jennifer says, “I’ve always felt a kinship to the Samaritan woman, a woman so shamed by past sins, she spent her mornings isolated in her den. She longed for community, for acceptance, for a love deep enough to see past her sins to her broken heart beneath. But her fear of rejection kept her in isolation.”

Jennifer is known for addressing real-life issues with authenticity and grace. Whether it’s from her experiences as a homeless teenager, the time she spent assisting Hurricane Katrina victims or walking through her husband’s miraculous organ transplant, she has witnessed firsthand the personal triumph of God’s love.   Her story is being used by prison ministries across the nation to reach women who believe they are too far gone to experience God’s healing grace.

Jennifer Slattery knows firsthand what life on the streets is like. “Growing up, I saw the effects of drugs and alcohol on those I cared about. I saw how the disease of addiction could create ripples of heartbreak and darkness that extended to families and friends. When I was in high school, I literally went from being an athlete and honor roll student to homeless in the span of a year. Those were hard times.  I was full of shame and lonely. But that was also when I saw God’s love most clearly, because He reached down and pulled me out.”

Jennifer spends much of her time in ministry. This high school dropout has experienced immense success, focus, and purpose. Having completed seminary classes focused on effective evangelism and discipleship, hermeneutics, Bible study methods, apologetics, conflict resolution, and the list goes on. All of which prepares her for the type of ministry she does wherever she lives.

While she has served in numerous capacities, including children’s and family ministry, she currently helps lead an Impact Team that mobilizes volunteers to help/or have helped in key community opportunities including:

  • Takin’ It to the Streets in Omaha (a ministry that serves Omaha’s homeless and working poor)
  • Omaha Street School
  • Essential Pregnancy Center (Bellevue, NE)
  • Northeastern Veterans Home
  • Restored Hope (a ministry serving single moms in Omaha, NE)
  • Papillion Manor and Mable Rose Nursing Home

Jennifer is an award-winning author and an inspiring contemporary novelist whose stories of hope, love, and grace resonate with real people. In her new book titled BREAKING FREE just released in March 2016, she writes that “sometimes it takes losing everything to grab hold of what really matters.”
