BACKGROUND – INSPIRATION
In the year 2000 I found myself in the hospital with an extremely painful kidney stone. After numerous tests it was determined that I needed surgery to remove the little (big) jagged-edged bugger. Although I would be put out, the thought of it all threw me into a panic and fear-filled state of mind. I began to pray for peace.
I asked the nurse for a pen and paper and (as I often do) I began writing down my thoughts and within a few minutes I had written another poem.
IN THE MIDST OF TROUBLE
Written by David L. Burrier © 2000
In the midst of trouble it’s difficult to see,
How fear tends to magnify whatever faces me.
In the midst of trouble several thoughts come into play,
Face the fear inside of me or let it rule my day.
In the midst of trouble I try to learn a lesson,
Instead of spending all my time in worry or in guessing.
In the midst of trouble I’ve learned my day goes best,
When I focus all my thoughts on ways that I’ve been blessed.
In the midst of trouble the lesson I’ve learned more,
Is each time I get through it, I’m stronger than before.
In the midst of trouble I’ve learned the strength I gain,
Comes from having faith as I call upon his name.
In the midst of trouble a peace comes over me.
A peace I cannot understand -a peace that sets me free.
In the midst of trouble when all is said and done,
I’ve learned that I can count on God whenever life’s no fun.
